The drive to serve fuels the power to change. With this will charged in the advocacies of the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity and the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority, they successfully launched their annual, month long celebration of Paglingkod sa Kalusugan ng Mamamayan or PagKalMa, the official service arm of the PHI, this August 23, 2018 in Calderon Hall Lobby, UP College of Medicine. From August to September, the fraternity and the sorority will work in conjunction to put forward the improvement of children’s health guided by the theme “kalusugan ng kabataan, kaunlaran ng bayan.”
With the drifting shade of blue accentuated by the golden PagKalMa tree, the exhibit displayed Phi’s intent for change by consistently intensifying their efforts that stems from the excellence that is Phi. Kicking off their month are the multiple blood drives through the Bloodline project this September 4 in UP Diliman and September 11 in PGH atrium, and through the Operation Blood Brothers this September 14 in Philippine Women’s University.
Phi Kappa Mu will continue their mental health advocacies by training more college and medical students through Usapang Isipan Training Program, and start to direct their efforts to high school students through Kabataang Usapang Isipan. Addressing the current misconceptions in immunization, and the long-standing problem in deworming, malnutrition, bullying, and hygiene, the fraternity will be launching a flagship five-pronged health program, FortiPHI, that is focused on boosting the health status of school children in the country.
On the other hand, the Phi Lambda Delta will also be bringing the advocacy of HIV awareness to high school students through EmpoweRED, recognizing that the issue encopasses every sector of our community, especially the youth. Stepping out of the typical lectures, they will be having a social media awareness campaign, Express Yourself, under their flagship project Milk Matters to raise awareness about breast feeding.
These projects, serving as catalysts for change, will not only continue from the foundations the Phi has built in the past, but also initiate a future of mobilizing the youth as they reach their full potentials as the stewards of the Filipino people.
