As cliché as it may sound, there is an automatic feeling of connection between brods of different generations. A serendipitous feeling of knowing that the person standing in front of you is your brother – after all, we believe that there is a destiny that makes us Phi. And there was no shortage of this feeling when the brothers gathered last February 23, 2018 in the clubhouse of San Lorenzo Village, Makati. With our gracious host, Gerardo Dizon Legaspi Φ1983, Venerable Preceptor Manuel Sabalo Vidal Jr. Φ2014, and a multitude of Phi generations extending back to Φ1950, the night was no doubt more than spectacular.
The brods enjoyed a bountiful dinner of pancit, lumpiang sariwa, lechons, and roast beef along with drinks that catered to every brod’s taste, from beer to single malt whiskeys. But it was the stories, inside jokes, and laughter reverberating through the night that made the gathering one for the books. Any aspiring medical student could easily say that it was an honor to have spent time and shared stories with leaders in the field of medicine that night. Being part of the fraternity erased the lines that separate a student from an established leader as we were all brothers. They were just older and younger brods sharing stories and laughter.
The warmth of brotherhood was absolutely felt, and any brod could not ask for more other than the night to not end. There was a bittersweet feeling at the end knowing that the brods will part ways for the night and yet knowing that these nights are always going to be constant.
