Service to humanity, most especially to our countrymen, is ever at the forefront of a PHI’s goals and aspirations. In keeping with one of the Fraternity’s pillars, the Fraternity seeks to advocate and render service that is both appropriate and empowering. Last November 24, 2013, the Fraternity did just that as the first of many visits was conducted by the student brods to the Phi Kappa Mu Gawad Kalinga Village in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
Comprehensive yet concise discussions on common injuries such as sprains and burns were given. The resident brods engaged the attention of the community with jokes, return demonstrations, and food prizes. The goal of the activity was to spread awareness about the handling of common injuries.
A public health lecture on common injuries was delivered in the Fraternity’s first of many visits to the Phi Kappa Mu GK Village.
The activity was the beginning of the implementation of a larger vision of present Vice Superior Exemplar Mark Terence Pua Mujer Φ2010 and Senior Guardian of the Temple Mikhail Gopez Amante Φ2011. After the construction and turnover of houses, the GK village will be turned into a model community that is able to express and address its own health needs.
Instead of merely providing material or financial aid for the maintenance of the health of the village residents, the Fraternity will provide the Phi Kappa Mu Gawad Kalinga Village residents with the necessary tools and knowledge to be able to take the initiative in maintaining the good health of their community. The end result will be a community that is healthy and self-reliant.
The 26 houses of the Phi Kappa Mu Gawad Kalinga Village was donated by the Fraternity in celebration of its 80th Founding Anniversary. None of this would have been possible without the ever-present support of the alumni in whom the Fraternity’s pillars of Brotherhood and Service are continuously evident. All for PHI!
