Eighty-four years. What an exquisite amount of time! Generations have passed, people have come and gone. Most individuals cannot fathom the breadth of 84 years. The traditions, the experiences, and the wisdom that can be built from such a long period. And yet, some of us are fortunate to be bestowed the knowledge and beliefs from an institution that has lasted this long. For a week, the loyal sons of the Phi Kappa Mu gathered in celebration of 84 years of Excellence, Leadership, Service, and Brotherhood.

The University Theatre was abuzz with interns in their billowing robes. Today is a momentous occasion for those clad in black and green because in a few month’s time they will be undertaking one of the most important tests of their lives: the test that will determine whether or not they will be able to pursue the noble profession of medicine in the Philippines. However, this event is a moment of celebration for them for they have passed through the fires of UP College of Medicine as well as UP Philippine General Hospital, and have been deemed worthy to be called Doctors of Medicine by the University of the Philippines. They have been molded and transformed to not only become talented physicians but the future leaders in the field of medicine.

Brothers, both young and old, students and professionals, have one common goal that makes them keep coming back to the Fraternity: to savor the warmth of brotherhood. As PHI, the moment that all of us cherish the most is when we get to know more about our brods. That essence was clearly seen in Phi Iloilo-Bacolod.

We can never be called brothers without knowing more about our brods. And we can never know more about our brods without savoring the warmth of brotherhood.

-Gabriel Paulo Candongo Orosco Φ2017

Brotherhood is a concept that has long existed in the history of mankind. Tribal men hunt in solidarity for sustenance of their tribe. Knights rely on each other to protect their kingdom from invaders. Military soldiers, as a single unit, defend countries in times of war. A Fraternity, though made for an entirely different purpose, is grounded under the same underlying principle of brotherhood. One that allows an individual to put his brother first at all times. One that bonds all brothers, no matter the distance between them. One that each brother will carry to his grave.

Phi Dagupan, as it was called ever since, has been a yearly tradition of the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity and the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority. With the goal of turning away from the busy life of UPCM and UP PGH to enjoy each other's company, it has also been a great opportunity for the younger batch to meet brods and sisses from Dagupan and Pangasinan.
