Phi Residence Hall Groundbreaking

Members of the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity and Phi Lambda Delta Sorority along with UP Manila Chancellor Manuel B. Agulto, PGH Director Jose Gonzales and UP President Alfredo Pascual held the groundbreaking ceremony for a new student’s residence hall. The residence hall that is to be called the PHI Residence Hall and which will be located beside the main building of the College of Allied Medical Professions, will help ease the burden of UP Manila students in looking for an affordable, safe and convenient home away from home. Outstanding Brothers Honored

Outstanding Brods were honored in two prestigious national awards – Dr. Ricardo Jose D. Quintos as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) for Vascular Surgery and Dr. Abundio A. Balgos as 2003’s Huwarang Pilipino Award

Both were recepients of the Outstanding Young Scientists Award by the the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Balgos in 1995 and Quintos in 2000.

Bayani Manalo, Dakila Awardee

Dr Bayani Manalo was honored by the Philippine American Foundation for Charities, Inc  as one of the first Dakila Achievement awardees for his outstanding community service to the Philippines, the Washington DC area and his colleagues.

The Spark of Creation

In 1933, Nicanor Padilla, Jr., Jose Barcelona, Leopoldo Vergel de Dios, and Benito Reverente, then members of the Class of 1936 of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, initiated the founding of the fraternity. They met with Luis Torres Jr., Jose Barcelona, and Antonio Cañiza of the intern’s class; Nicasio Sahagun of the senior’s class; Enrique Garcia and Victor Nañagas of the lower years. By the time the fraternity was formally created, there were thirty-five charter members.
